BENGALURU: The criminal investigation department (CID) sleuths summoned former Hubli-Dharwad police commissioner Ravindra Prasad to enquire on the cricket betting racket that prevailed in the twin city during his tenure as police chief. The former police chief of the twin city appeared before the CID sleuths on Thursday.
It was during his tenure a major cricket betting racket was unearthed in October last year which followed a series of sting operation by a private TV channel.
A deputy commissioner of police and two constables were caught on camera during a sting operation that led to their suspension later.
Recently, a senior IAS officer was also raided by CID for his alleged involvement in the racket and over Rs 4 crore besides other valuables like gold jewels and property documents were unearthed from a flat in city owned by his father.
“We wanted to get more details that were not in open till now and wanted to know the reach of the racket. That’s why we summoned the former Hubli-Dharwad police chief. He might be having more knowledge about the racket and those involved and there was doubts about some of the absconding members of the racket. We believe that he might have got some vital information on the racket which nobody else has,” said a CID police officer.
The CID said that the former police chief of the twin city was responsible for suspending two constables and a DCP and the police personnel caught might have spilled more beans on the racket when Ravindra Prasad interrogated them.
